Rachmaninoff on Harmonica
Spellbound Concerto, featuring bass harmonica
Stardust
One of the most fantastic musical acts in show business is a trio of talented Chcagoans known collectively as The Harmonicats. Individually Jerry Murad, Al Fiore and Don Les started their rise to fame in a Mercury recording studio when they first recorded an old song, "Peg O' My Heart", in a new sound dimension—the use of the echo chamber. Their appeal to record fans and club go-ers has been proven over 16 years of recording experience and club dates.
In this 16 year stretch, the Harmonicats haven't rested on their well earned laurels. Indeed no! They constantly strived to achieve greater sound horizons from their harmonicas (pocketsful of them—and some so large they can hardly be stuffed into suitcases). In the late 50's they finally developed the use of the electronic harmonicas which could be amplified thru speakers strapped on their chests. This marked a new era for the trio. Now they could play on stage and have the same full high fidelity sound which they achieved on their recordings.
With this obstacle overcome, Jerry Murad and his faithful two masters in music, turned their attention toward a new goal—that of bringing the harmonica, that lowly instrument relegated to the status of a toy to be played by little boys with no talent or just a love for making noise and bothering momma, to the level of a trumpet or perhaps even a piano or an organ. After all, the harmonica is capable of playing more than one note at a time, in fact even full chords if need be. At each and every recording session, The Harmonicats asked to be backed by fuller groups. These transitions of getting more instruments and more men behind them were naturally slow. However, each recording session saw new concepts arise. And now, with the release of this album, The Harmonicats have not only achieved their goal, but they have also proven their point.
And prove it they did, to the recording executives, the listening public, and the world at large. The harmonica is an instrument of great stature, wide range, infinite feeling, and tremendous depth of sound. "Harmonically Yours" is an album that finally placed the trio in front of a full and complete orchestra, replete with all the instruments necessary to back fully any instrument, soloist, or group of instrumentalists.
Jerry Murad and The Harmonicats went even one better by personally choosing the various numbers in this album for their adaptability to be presented in such full richness. As you listen to the varied selection of tunes, you will be amazed at what you hear and what this sound does for you. You have never heard better music anywhere, regardless of what presentation was used. This music compares with the best concert presentations and arrangements. The moods are changed, the pace is varied, and the styles are fluctuated to please even the most discriminating music lover. Here truly is that one-in-a-million record album "Harmonically Yours" to treasure and savor whenever your desire demands great music done in a great manner.
